Mt. Honita

Mount Honita, also known as Takasashiyama, standing at an elevation of 1,225 meters, is a standalone peak located to the north of Okutama Station on the JR Ome Line in Nishi-Tama District, Tokyo. The origin of the mountain's name has two stories: one suggests it was named after the burden carriers that once traversed the old Ume Road on its slopes, while another theory proposes it was named after a wallowing spot for wild boars near the summit. The views from the summit, particularly towards the east, are breathtaking.

To the north, trails lead down to the large valley via Kobutakayama, continuing towards the Sawtooth Ridge and Kawakoke Mountain. To the southeast, paths diverge from Chikumayama, with the Hanaorido Ridge descending to Tanazawa and the Gonzasu Ridge leading down towards Shiramaru. The Oyasunba Ridge extends southward, near the confluence of the Hikawa and Tama Rivers, with trails linking from the Oyasunba rest area to Anterasawa.

The hiking route starts from Okutama Station, passes through Anterasawa, and ascends steeply along the Oyasunba Ridge to reach the summit. Additionally, there's a trail leading down to Hatonosu via the Daikon-no-Yama-no-Kami, starting from Kobutakayama, which takes about 5 hours for the entire journey.
