Mt. Atago (Atago-yama), with an elevation of 408 meters, is situated in Hiratsuka, Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture, and stands as the highest peak in the region—the only one in the 400-meter class. The mountain's name is derived from the Atago Shrine at its summit, making it a mountain of faith. The southern area once hosted pastures for military horses and dairy cattle and is now designated as a historical site by Chiba Prefecture, marking the birthplace of dairy farming in Japan. Today, the site is home to the "Chiba Prefecture Dairy Farming Village (Chibaken Rakuno-no-sato)."
The hiking route to Mt. Atago begins at the Ooi branch on National Route 410, from where a two-kilometer walk along the Rinoka Central Forest Road leads towards the mountain. However, the summit is occupied by a base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and access typically requires prior permission.
